Political language -- and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists -- is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.

In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.
All political thinking for years past has been vitiated in the same way. People can foresee the future only when it coincides with their own wishes, and the most grossly obvious facts can be ignored when they are unwelcome.

Most people get a fair amount of fun out of their lives, but on balance life is suffering, and only the very young or the very foolish imagine otherwise.

Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.
The amount of eccentricity in a society has generally been proportional to the amount of genius, mental vigor, and moral courage it contained. That so few now dare to be eccentric marks the chief danger of the time.

Wassef Ali Hassoun Reportedly Beheaded
A lowely band of cowards, who refer to themselves as the "Ansar al-Sunna Army", is said to have beheaded Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun. The head of the group claims:
"We would like to inform you that the Marine of Lebanese origin, Hassoun, has been slaughtered. You are going to see the video with your very eyes soon."
I urge everyone to not give that video any attention. They have murdered Hassoun, a Muslim, for self-promotion. Outside the beltway asserts:
While several of the headlines showing on GoogleNews as of 1625 EST didn’t include the word “militant,” all of those headlines avoided description of the murderers entirely. Terrorist, killer, murderer, Islamist, jihadist, and so forth were all bypassed. When even Voice of America—which is supposed to get our message out to the rest of the world—falls prey to moral relativism, we’re in trouble.
These cowards should not be called terrorists or militants, they should be called murderers. If there was a single label the band of cowards would not want, its this: Cowardly criminals who murdered a defenseless muslim. Mr. Hassoun's family is in mourning today; they are understandably avoiding media attention. As Incestuous mplificationpointed out after the beheading of Kim Sun-il, we should respect
the death of Wassef Ali Hassoun and the pain which his family is feeling:
The Media would have cameras in his parents' faces throughout the entire process, and I personally think it's disgusting, tasteless, and overflowing with agenda.
If you haven't figured out the agenda yet, I can't help you. They absolutely, without question deserve to cry as loud and as often as they feel is necessary.
Is your burial considered dignified if your parents are surrounded by scores of camera crews and reporters asking if George Bush was personally responsible for your death? Just wondering.
Dignity. Interesting word, that. Certain members of the media in certain unnamed countries may want to look it up sometime. Dignity. Interesting word, that. Certain members of the media in certain unnamed countries may want to look it up sometime.
Seen plenty of uncontrollable outbursts of childlike raw emotion. But dignity? Nada.
Some bloggers have been speculating on the circumstances of his kidnapping. These speculations are not worth repeating, but someone in the backcountry should be ashamed. Hassoun is dead, and thats all that matters. Regardless of the falseness
or validity of such claims, the courage he had in his last hours deserve the upmost respect.
Dean's World gave the best post that I've seen yet. He reminds us that:
It's clear how much the new media technology plays into plans of Al Qaeda. The murder is timed to fall right around the time of the U.S. July 4th weekend. It seems less aimed at intimidation than an act of brutal goading.
This is going to shove the Al Qaeda beheadings to a new level, because an American military man (if the report is true) will have been brutally butchered.
Once again Al Qaeda will have gone for a qualitative act of terror -- picking a highly symbolic individual and also picking a highly symbolic timeframe.
Each time a terrorist group beheads someone the general populace is becoming a mite more desensitive. A tiny part of the shock value and revulsion wears off, because human beings are basically resiliant. Reality is adjusted in a relationship akin to when you stick your hand in a sink of water: your hand goes in and the water adjusts around the hand. Similarly, our perception of reality (a more brutal world) adjusts.
However, these murders have no idea the gods of war that they have awaken. Wassef Ali Hassoun was, above all, a US Marine. Apparently this band of cowards does not realize who the United States Marines Corps is. I hope they read this letter by a Marine (excerpts):
To the terrorists currently operating in Iraq,
I see that you have captured a U. S. Marine, and that you plan to cut off his head if your demands are not met. Big mistake. Before you carry out your threat I suggest you read up on Marine Corps history. The Japanese tried the same thing on Makin Island and in a few other places during World War Two, and came to regret it. Go ahead and read about what then happened to the mighty Imperial Army on Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. They paid full price for what they did, and you will too.
We also have a warrior culture in this country, and they are called Marines. It is a brotherhood forged in the fire of many wars, and the bond between us is stronger than blood.
Before the current politically correct climate enveloped our culture one of the recruiting slogans of our band of brothers was “The Marine Corps Builds Men.” You will soon find out just how true that is. You, on the other hand, are nothing but a bunch of women. If you were men you would show your faces, and take us on in a fair fight. Instead, you are cowards who hide behind masks and decapitate helpless victims. If you truly represented the interest of the Iraqi people you would not be ambushing those who come to your country to repair your power plants, or sabotage the oil pipelines which fuel the Iraqi economy. Your agenda is hate, plain and simple.
When you raise that sword over your head I want you to remember one thing. Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun is not alone as he kneels before you. Every Marine who has ever worn the uniform is there with him, and when you strike him you are striking all of us. If you think the Marines were tough on you when they were cleaning out Fallujah a few weeks ago you haven’t seen anything yet. If you want to know what it feels like to have the Wrath of God called down upon you then go ahead and do it. We are not Turkish truck drivers, or Pakistani laborers, or independent contractors hoping to find work in your country. We are the United States Marines, and we will be coming for you.
